It’s been 6 1/2 weeks since I last posted! Ahhhh!!! Time is getting the best of me. I didn’t write that much down, but my pictures reminded me of more, here it goes….
THINGS THAT DIDN’T WORK:
Dixon constantly having huge scrapes all over his body. The kid is all over the place. One night I was putting Hydrogen Peroxide on a scrape and he said “Ouchie, it hurts!”. I told him “It was eating the bad guys”. He replied “What, Superman is eating all the bad guys?”. He now runs around the house telling everyone that Superman is on his cuts eating the bad guys. He just couldn’t be cuter! 🙂
Thinking about other young mommies having their first babies and remembering that special experience. I think that is why I missed Bryson so much at the beginning, there is something special about that first born baby, as you bond and learn together (all my kids have something special for different reasons and experiences).
Royce running home from the neighbors and telling everyone, over and over that they gave us a “ballyball” (volleyball).
Bryson turning 19!!! It was sad to not have him here, but Kevin surprised us with a picture of his head. It was a little creepy and our neighbors were wondering what was going on….
Corbin getting a phone interview, but he told her that he would call her back because he was just about to eat dinner. After he hung up, I asked him who it was. He told me and I quickly said to call her back! He kept saying “We’ve never been able to talk on the phone during dinner.” I guess we over trained him, sweet kid!
Kevin pulling late nights for a week. With the nature of Kevin’s work, sometimes things pull together all at the same time and he can’t get it all done. It’s always a good thing to have too much work, when you are a consultant, but last week was crazy! One night he only slept 1 1/2 hours while his videos were uploading. He has been doing some work for AT&T, so it’s pretty exciting, but demanding at the same time. He made it through it all, then Stake Conference (he helps run the behind the scenes part), now off to speak in Baltimore, then back to a roll out at NASA. He truly amazes me as he still makes time for all of us. Love you, Kev!
Tornados!!! Last night we had some very severe weather. We were prepared, so we didn’t worry (actually we think it’s pretty amazing and exciting). The tornados seem to have a path the turns north of us each time. We catch the southern end of them. It’s neat to have all activities cancelled and be together as a family. Thankfully, all is well for now. 🙂 Kevin had to move his flight up today, so as to avoid round two tonight.
THINGS THAT WORKED:
Corbin hanging with his cronies….
General Conference! https://www.lds.org/general-conference?lang=eng This is one of our favorite times of the year. We have many traditions that surround this great weekend. Merritt added making crepes in the morning. She did a great job. I love to hear the Prophets speak to us and feel the spirit so strongly.
Classical Conversation MEMORY MASTERS! Tessa, Merritt and Hadley mastered over four hundred facts and verbally passed it off to a tutor. Perfectly, word for word, supposedly effortlessly (by the end). The subjects were: Geography, Timeline, Math, Science, History (Presidents too), Latin, Grammar and Geography. This was a huge accomplishment for many reasons. The main being that the Jones family tends to not do anything perfectly. I love to do things right up to the 90/95% range. That last 10%, just doesn’t seem worth it. This experience ended up a wonderful opportunity for the girls to achieve something I wouldn’t normally provide for them. Wow! We had some torturous moments and many tears shed. They all wanted to do it, so their will prevailed. Whenever we hear a part of the information, we all start to sing the rest of it. So fun! Congratulations, girls!!! A huge thanks to their tutors, director and Laura Cazier for your support and great example. Here are a some examples of the information (I didn’t want to show more, just in case of copy right laws).
David Archuleta missionary video. I loved watching this and thought is showed the reasons these young men go serve missions. It’s such a wonderful, growing, serviceable experience. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=29350800#YvyJIBQKYvmpv43t.01
Hadley’s ninth birthday! She is defiantly not a little girl any more. I am stretching little girlness out of her as much as possible. She had a birthday party and it was so fun! Hadley is so loving, good, sneaky, unique and fun. She makes us laugh as she notices things we have never thought of. She effortlessly learns new things and is such a joy. Thank you for being who you are Hadley!
Miriam Gehrig (Sis. Gehrig a return missionary from a year ago) staying with us!!! We LOVED having her here. She fits right in as if she is one of the family. She is truly an amazing person! I wish she didn’t live in Germany!!
Finally scheduling a week vacation in Florida. We could only find one week that we could all be together for the entire summer (once Corbin starts working, we don’t want to take him away). We are sooooo excited to have a huge house and be right on the beach in a small beach town. We can’t wait to go!!!
Tessa turned 13!!! Three birthdays in a week and a half was crazy. She had a fun party and had to watch a PG-13 movie (on ClearPlay). She has been such a fun, exciting young woman to watch grow up. She is so sweet and full of energy. She constantly surprises me by her boldness, yet thoughtful behavior. I love my Tessa!
Addisen housesitting for the Worthington’s last week. She also helped with their two teenager daughters. We got to see Addy for a little bit each morning, after her classes, but she was gone a lot. 😦 I got a little teary as I realized what next year was going to be like. We got to have Sarah stay at our house during the weekend, while Addy went to a YCL Retreat. We have a lot of rules that were new to Sarah, but she took it all in stride. She said she was having her “best Jones attitude”. Ha! She was really great and patient with us all. It’s super loud at our house, compared to her quiet home. Corbin painted her toenails for her….. Lovely…..
Finishing my run and seeing Merritt and Dixon on the front steps. I always walk for about ten minutes at the end, so I called Dixon up and took him with me. I think it was the best part of my week! We smelled the flowers, threw some rocks, skipped, held hands and laughed. What a joy children are, love me some Dixon…. I’m trying really hard to stop and take time for the kids throughout the day. I can get so caught up in getting things done, that I don’t see what is right in front of me.
Tessa, Merritt and Hadley getting to go to a friend’s birthday party. They had a blast on the blow up slide and the whip cream fight. It was reported back that my three had no problem participating with great vigor. I’m not sure if this is a good thing…..
Kevin holding Dixon and asking him about his legs, arms, etc. When Kevin got to his eyes, he asked him what color they were. Dixon rolled his eyes all over the place trying to look at them. We were laughing so hard!
